Justin’s Favorite Smoothie

We have often heard that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but what about extending that saying to include women and children? If you are looking for an endearing delight to sate your loved ones, Francesca de la Torre will make you look smooth with her Justin’s Favorite Smoothie recipe.

Named for her husband, who enjoys it as a breakfast item or dessert treat, this creation from the resident of the 2600 block of Dudley Street abounds in nutrients and will surely keep you looking good if you are planning a trip or two to the Shore. The Grays Ferry inhabitant and her spouse have the fortune of adding mint from their yard, so they encourage you to make that ingredient yet another refreshing component of your concoction. ■

Ingredients:

2 handfuls of baby spinach

1 frozen banana

1 cup of frozen cherries, no pits

4 ounces of orange juice

Fresh mint leaves (Optional — a few to taste)

About four ounces of water (or more as needed)

Directions:

Add the spinach, banana, cherries, juice, and the mint, if using it, to a blender. Pulse until the spinach has broken down a bit.

Add the four ounces of water. Add more to make it thinner to your preference, up to eight ounces. Pour into pint glasses, and enjoy!
