‘Rittenhouse Rapist' sentenced

A ex-South Philly resident will spend up to 44 years in prison following his Monday sentencing for a June 2014 sexual assault.

As first reported in the June 26, 2014 South Philly Review as “Suspected rapist detained,” Milton Garcia, then of the 1800 block of South Eighth Street, grabbed a woman from behind and forced the then-26-year-old to open her apartment on the 1900 block of Sansom Street, where he sexually assaulted her and confiscated her cell phone and keys before riding off on a bicycle. Tracking the phone to the local address, authorities, having also disseminated surveillance footage, executed a search warrant. They took Garcia into custody at his place of employment, Tashan, 777 S. Broad St.

The 28-year-old individual pleased no-contest in November to charges of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, kidnapping, and burglary. and will serve between 22 and 44 years in prison. ■
