No time to clown around

Hard to believe it, but the iconic 146-year-old Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is coming to a close. But before you start sounding the “Oh No!” alarm, there is still a golden opportunity to enjoy the show as the “Out of This World” tour is coming to the Wells Fargo Center Feb. 16-20, with multiple performances a day. But, why now?

Parent company Feld Entertainment Inc. said the decision to end the circus tours is a result of high costs, coupled with a decline in ticket sales, making it an unsustainable business.

“We are grateful for the hundreds of millions of fans who have experienced Ringling Bros. over the years. Between now and May, we will give them one last chance to experience the joy and wonder of Ringling Bros.,” Kenneth Feld, chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment, said.

Tickets are $15-$118. …

That’s right, the Garth Brooks World Tour with Trisha Yearwood is coming to the Wells Fargo Center 7 p.m. March 25. Brooks was recently named the Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Awards for a fifth time, a first for any artist. But there is little time to ponder that to-go-or-not-to-go decision as tickets ($74.98) go on sale 10 a.m. tomorrow (Feb. 10). Visit wellsfargocenterphilly.com/Garth. …

Pitchers and catchers have yet to report, but the Phillies are busy lining up the entertainment for the 2017 season. Super Bowl LI offered plenty of Monday morning office talk, but in these parts, the focus is now being placed on the next stage of the process (yes, the phrase works for the other Philly sports teams, too). The 2017 NFL Draft, the NFL’s marquee spring event in which passionate football fans try to play GM, is coming to the City of Brotherly Love, more specifically the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art,  April 27-29. The Birds will be picking at No. 15 (part of the Sam Bradford trade). Let the guessing game begin.
