Now that the holidays are upon us, it also means a lot of time in the kitchen prepping for all of the parties. Instead of just cheese and veggie platters, treat guests to Marilyn Werner’s classic Clams Casino.
The resident of the 100 block of Dufor Street hopes her offering takes the crown for crowd-pleasing appetizer. The treats are easy to make and while Marilyn prefers baking, they also can be broiled and ready in a matter of minutes. SPR
Ingredients:
3 to 4 peppers, chopped
2 to 3 onions, chopped
2 tablespoons of butter or margarine
Garlic powder, to taste
White pepper, to taste
About 24 clams
1 package of bacon
Directions:
Preheat the oven or broiler to 350 degrees. Sauté the peppers and onions in the butter. When thoroughly cooked, add the garlic powder and white pepper. Refrigerate the mixture until cold. Take the clams out of their shells. Wash the shells. Chop the clams and put them back into the shells. Spoon the mixture over the clams. Place a small strip of bacon on each filled clam. Bake for about 25 minutes or broil for about five minutes.
