Gunfire erupted on the sidelines of a basketball game at a local rec center injuring a spectator.

During a basketball game at Ford Recreation Center, 631 Snyder Ave., a group of female bystanders began fighting while the action on the court of the Ford PAL/Mitchell Stop the Violence Basketball League continued, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Soon other onlookers and players joined in the fight.

One man fired two shots from a .25 caliber handgun striking a 38-year-old once in the stomach, Tolliver said. The victim was driven to Methodist Hospital via private auto in stable condition.

The suspect is believed to be from the housing projects near Fifth and Christian streets and was described as black, age 22, suffering from facial injuries as a result of the fight and wearing a red T-shirt.

To report information, call South Detectives at 215-686-3013.
