A South of South fast food eatery’s employee was shot and robbed while driving to a Center City bank to deposit the proceeds.
The 34-year-old manager of McDonald’s, 2951 Grays Ferry Ave., was traveling from his place of employment to TD Bank, 1726 Walnut St., with a green bag containing more than $8,000 at 9:33 a.m. Feb. 8, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. While driving on the 700 block of South 18th Street, he stopped behind a gold Chevrolet — with a license plate number ending in 5978 or 5988 — that braked and then backed into his vehicle.
An unknown man knocked on his window and yelled, “Give me the bag,” Tolliver said. A gunshot shattered his window and struck him in the right leg, so he tossed the moneybag out of the window. The offender grabbed it and fled in the car westbound on Fitzwater Street.
A medic transported the victim to Hahnemann University Hospital in stable condition, Tolliver said.
The robber was described as black, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-6, 160 pounds and wearing a dark-colored hoody.
