The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations is holding its final (and 11th) public hearing on inter-group conflict and violence in schools 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 16 at Columbus Square Recreation Center, 12th and Wharton streets. The series of public hearings is designed as a listening session to hear from students, parents, faculty, police, community members and youth organizations about inter-group conflict, violence and intimidation motivated by race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
The commission is using the testimony from these meetings to create a report with recommendations that will be submitted to the School District of Philadelphia. Language interpretation services are available by request.
Those wanting to testify should e-mail Naarah’ Crawley or call 215-686-4674. Testimony may be submitted in any language via e-mail to hrcommissioners@phila.gov. Hearing-impaired individuals in need of an ASL interpreter or other accommodation should call TTY: 215-686-3238 or send an e-mail to Naarah’ Crawley.
Minutes after celebrating with her first-period English class Jan. 22 for scoring higher on a standardized test than the rest of their fellow students at Audenried High School, as well as the School District of Philadelphia’s average, teacher Brynn Keller felt powerless.
