Christina Floyd
Seventeen–year-old Christina Floyd always seems to be smiling. The 12th-grader at Neumann-Goretti High School, 1736 S. 10th St., has had a lot to smile about as she continues to excel inside and outside of the classroom. Her success has not gone unnoticed by her peers and teachers.
“Christina is a very sweet and mature young women who displays great discipline and is well liked by everyone,” Veronica Oster, the school’s admissions director, said. “She is very athletic and talented as well.”
Floyd takes full advantage of her natural athletic ability by loading up her extracurricular schedule with sports. She is not only on the varsity volleyball team, but she is the captain of the varsity basketball team as well. If that isn’t enough, she has found the time to become a Philadelphia Soul junior cheerleader.
But Floyd’s interests don’t stop with sports. In the classroom, English in particular has captured her passion.
“I enjoy reading about new and old things. I learn so much just by picking up a book,” Floyd, who is in honors English and has also been awarded second honors and perfect attendance awards, said.
Her love of English and writing in particular has motivated her to become even more involved in additional activities.
“I love English so much that I even joined the yearbook committee just so I can write the articles,” she said.
After joining the yearbook committee, it didn’t take long for a motivated student like Floyd to become yearbook editor.
Floyd, a resident of the 2200 block of South 22nd Street, has plans to attend St. Joseph’s University. In keeping with her love of sports, she wants to major in sports medicine or pre-law.
There is no question that the senior has bright future. She credits her mother Sharon Floyd with guiding her to this point.
“She has supported me in everything I did and continue to do,” Christina said.
Christina Floyd will receive a $150 savings bond. If you are a teacher or full-time educator and would like to nominate a student (first through 12th grades), call 215-336-2500 ext. 117 or e-mail editor@southphillyreview.com.
