Gianna Jacoby
Gianna Jacoby, of the 1100 block of Ritner Street, works hard at everything she does. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed as she has accumulated an impressive array of academic awards including the student of the month, super kid and school spirit awards as well as First Honors for her extraordinary grades and behavior as a fifth-grader at Epiphany of Our Lord School, 1248 Jackson St.
“Gianna is a child filled with so much hope,” her teacher Lindsay Avitalle said. “She always gives her absolute best. She is forgiving and always looks out for others.”
In the classroom, Gianna seems to overcome every challenge she faces. An excellent reader, Gianna enjoys strengthening her creative side by writing poems and short stories in her journal.
“She excels in integrated language arts, but also does well in all subjects including math, religion, social studies and science,” Avitalle said.
Gianna displays her passion for life by throwing herself into numerous extracurricular activities. She plays on Epiphany’s junior varsity girls’ basketball team as well as finding the time to be a part of the technology club and the choir. If that wasn’t enough, she also attends dancing school, plays soccer at SEYAA and is the student council representative for the fifth grade.
Gianna’s aspirations are as limitless as her talents. In no particular order, she wants to be a singer, an actor, a chef, a soccer player, an author, a school principal, a veterinarian, a photographer and a basketball player.
When asked who her role models are she named her mother, her grandmother and Avitalle as her inspirations.
“They are my role models because they inspire me the most,” Gianna said. “They show me the way to Jesus.”
Gianna Jacoby will receive a $150 savings bond. If you are a teacher or full-time educator and would like to nominate a student (first through 12th grades), call 215-336-2500 ext. 117 or e-mail editor@southphillyreview.com.
