Charles Santore Branch, 932 S. Seventh St., held its 100th anniversary celebration Saturday, with a Philadelphia Zoo on Wheels demonstration (Photo 1), a citation presented by 1st District Councilman Mark Squilla (Photo 2) and a Phillie Phanatic appearance (Photo 3). A decade after its Center City unveiling, supporters ventured to South Philadelphia High School, 2101 S. Broad St., Tuesday to rededicate a historical marker honoring Israel Goldstein, a Jewish Zionist movement leader and 1911 Southern alumnus (Photo 4). Pet enthusiasts gathered Sunday at Burke Playground, Second and Jackson streets, to raise $3,737 and donate goods to animals displaced by Hurricane Sandy (Photo 5). The George Washington School Girl Scouts, 1198 S. Fifth St., embarked to Gilbertsville for a camping trip Friday (Photo 6). The Christian Street YMCA, 1724 Christian St., celebrated facility enhancements Friday (Photo 7).

“Thanks for the photo op with the historical marker. SPHS alumni appreciate it...a newsclip would have helped for the deeper meaning in a school that is struggling with itself. The kids need more support!!”
