Theresa Belfiore, sister of crooner Frankie Avalon, promoted her special tomato gravy at ShopRite on 24th Street and Oregon Avenue. The native of the 3200 block of South 13th Street formed Avallone Tomatoes in 2010 with her son Stephen Belfiore. Her Sunday Gravy is a tribute to her mother, Mary, and features her mom‘s picture on every can (Photo 1).
At more than 7,500 locations across the nation, churches gathered for a Public Square Rosary Saturday including locally at Stella Maris Church, 10th and Bigler streets (Photos 2 and 3) and Front Street and Washington Avenue.
Man’s best friends gathered Saturday for the second annual Save the Mums and Mutts fundraiser with facepainting, arts and crafts, Mummers’ performances and raffles, which benefitted the Philadelphia Mummers and TreeTops Animal Rescue, at Burke Playground, Second and Jackson streets (Photos 4 and 5).
