The primaries are days away with a lot of seats up for grabs. Aside from candidates vying for Pennsylvania governor and lieutenant governor, U.S. Congressional and General Assembly spots are up for the taking with about 10 of those from state House of Representatives’ races residing locally.
For the 175th District, Queen Village resident Daryl La Fountain aims to unseat state Rep. Michael H. O’Brien and face off against fellow Queen Villager Louis S. Schwartz in the General Election. The district covers sections of the city from the Northeast to South Philly including Queen Village and parts of Bella Vista, Passyunk Square and Pennsport. Each state representative is elected to a two-year term.
The 182nd District covers parts of Center City and South Philly including sections of Bella Vista, Grays Ferry, Hawthorne, Passyunk Square and South of South. Each state representative is elected to a two-year term.Two Democrats from the 8th Ward in Center City will vie for the seat.
State Rep. William F. Keller of the 184th District is running unopposed in the primary, but will face Republican Stephen J. Pico, of Lower Moyamensing in November. The 184th District covers South Philly neighborhoods including sections of Lower Moyamensing, Navy Yard, Newbold, Pennsport, Passyunk Square, Point Breeze, Stella Maris, Sports Complex West Passyunk and Whitman.
Robert C. Donatucci and Michael D. Bruno, of the West Passyunk neighborhood, candidates for the 185th District, are running unopposed on Tuesday, but will be matched up against each other for the General Election. The district spans from South Philly into Delaware County including local neighborhoods such as Girard Estate, Marconi Plaza, Packer Park and part of the Navy Yard. Each state representative is elected to a two-year term.
First-term state Rep. Kenyatta Johnson is opposite Point Breeze community activists Timothy Hannah and Dyheim Watson on the ballot in the 186th District. The victor will face Republican Keith Todd in November. The district stretches from South to Southwest Philly including parts of Bella Vista, Grays Ferry, Hawthorne, Newbold, Passyunk Square, Point Breeze, South of South and West Passyunk neighborhoods. Each state representative is elected to a two-year term.
