A Phillies' employee's World Series jewelry worth more than $10,000 has been recovered.
A 44-year-old Phillies publicist made a move Monday that nearly cost him a $10,500 2008 World Championship ring when he removed it in a bathroom stall and placed it on the toilet paper dispenser.
But at a press conference yesterday at South Detective Division, 24th and Wolf streets, Capt. Laurence Nodiff announced the jewel had been recovered and a janitor who worked as a subcontractor for Citizens Bank Park had been arrested. The suspect had not been charged at press time so his identity has not been released.
The victim of the alleged theft noticed the ring missing from his finger while driving home some 30 minutes after the bathroom trip, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detectives said. The bauble is silver with 103 diamonds and a ruby inlay with the word "Brazer" imprinted on it.
The ball club employee went to the loo at about 1:20 p.m. and took off the jewelry while he used the bathroom. The man told police no one else was in the restroom and, after he left, he went back to his desk to work for 20 minutes before heading home.
When he drove back to work, he frantically searched the bathroom and his office to no avail, police said.

At 8:42 p.m. Saturday, several men were standing on the northeast corner of Bonsall and Oakford streets when the child heard gunfire and spotted one offender firing a brown-and-black handgun before fleeing east on Oakford from Bonsall.
The gunman was described as black, in his 20s with a thin build, dark complexion and a tattoo of lettering on his right forearm; he wore an orange-and-blue horizontally striped polo shirt, dark blue jeans and black sneakers.

A man who told a robber to "get out of my face" wound up sliced up and mugged anyway at about 8:20 a.m. Friday.
The victim was walking to a store on the 2200 block of Morris Street when he was stopped by the culprit who asked him for a dollar. When the 25-year-old told him to get lost, the shunned cut the victim's left shoulder with a knife, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detectives said. In the ensuing struggle, the victim received a stab wound to his right wrist and, at that point, decided to throw an unknown amount of cash on the ground and make his getaway.
Police responded to a call of shots fired and a man down in Point Breeze at 12:28 a.m. Sunday and, about 18 hours later, the victim’s friends and family were in the middle of a hail of bullets at his vigil at the same location.
