A local man has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide in the deaths of a 91-year-old man and his 84-year-old wife during an Aug. 25 car crash in Bensalem.
Russell Dawson, 44, was arrested at his Ritner Street home Monday and charged, in addition to vehicular homicide, with recklessly endangering another person, according to a press release issued by Bensalem Police.
Dawson was hurt in the accident when his GMC van slammed into Robert and Ann Clayton's 2000 Chrysler at the intersection of Street and Hulmeville roads, police said. Dawson was traveling south on Hulmeville, attempting to make a left on to eastbound Street toward Interstate 95, when his vehicle struck the Claytons' as they were driving north on Hulmeville, police said.
All three went to Aria Health's Bucks County Campus in Langhorne following the 3:15 p.m. crash. At that time, Dawson was in stable condition, while Richard Clayton died at 10:30 the evening of the accident and his wife was pronounced dead the next morning.
An 18-year-old took two stab wounds to his back Monday inside his 14-year-old ex-girlfriend's home on the 2200 block of Bonsall Street. The younger teen was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime and recklessly endangering another person.
When police arrived at the scene at about 9:45 p.m., the victim told them his former flame knifed him during a squabble, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.
Police did not recover the weapon when they nabbed the girl inside the dwelling.
The wounded man went to Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition.
A teen needed 25 stitches to the top of his head after a group of about five men ambushed him with fists, feet and a baseball bat -- for no apparent reason, the victim told police.
The 17-year-old told cops the gang did not say anything before, during or after the Sept. 20 incident that occurred shortly after midnight at Leithgow and Bainbridge streets in Queen Village, nor did they attempt to take anything from him.
The victim was walking west on Bainbridge when he crossed Leithgow and noticed two men standing at the streets' intersection as if they were waiting for someone, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detectives said. As the victim passed the pair, one grabbed him from behind and threw him to the ground, where the aggressor and his accomplice started kicking and punching him. Three more attackers ran up from Fourth Street and joined in the assault. One of the latter was armed with a bat, which he used to clobber the teen several times over his head, Tolliver said.
All of the suspects made their escape by running east on Bainbridge.
A passerby who found the wounded party called police and a medic transported the teen to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in stable condition.
