An East Passyunk man is in custody for burglarizing a Grays Ferry church twice.
William Hagans, 26, of the 1200 block of McKean Street, allegedly entered St. Gabriel Church’s convent, 2916 Dickinson St., through an unlocked front window at 1:45 a.m. Oct. 17 and took $240 from a sister’s purse, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The next day at 3:32 a.m. he is believed to have returned, stealing a set of keys and two envelopes — one with Christmas money and another with Alter Servers Funeral funds — that contained a combined $1,000.
Police released a video of three persons of interest that were scene on the 1500 block of South 29th Street around the time of both burglaries, Tolliver said.
Hagans was brought to South Detective Division, 2301 S. 24th St., for questioning Oct. 21 at which time he is believed to have admitted to both crimes, Tolliver said.
Hagans was charged with two counts of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and receiving stolen property according to court records. He is being held on $200,000 bail.
He was arrested Oct. 5 for a robbery on the 2000 block of South Broad Street for which he posted 10 percent of his $4,000 bail Oct. 6, according to court records.
