The suspect was spotted in an area store recently.
Police are seeking a man who is preying on women inside a condominium parking facility in the Newbold/Point Breeze section.
“[The incidents] are all in the parking garage there and they are all robberies of women who are minding their own business coming home, parking their cars when they’re set upon by this predator,” South Detective Division Captain Larry Nodiff said Tuesday.
The latest of three known robberies in the elevated parking garage at the Marine Club Condominiums, 1100 S. Broad St., occurred at 6:55 p.m. Jan. 12 on the second floor after a 26-year-old woman parked her auto in the garage, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detectives said. The offender pushed her back into the car and demanded cash. She handed over $100 from her wallet and then the thief requested gold jewelry or electronics, but she did not have any. He told her, “I’m not going to hurt you” and swiped her cell phone, which had dropped to the ground, before fleeing in an unknown direction.
The same man is believed to have come up behind a 40-year-old woman in the facility at 10:55 p.m. Dec. 11, 2011, according to the Police Public Affairs Unit. Armed with a knife, he commanded money and fled down a staircase and exited the building on 15th Street with a laptop and $60.
He is believed to have first struck at 9 p.m. Sept. 26, ’11 on the third-floor of the garage when he shoved a 28-year-old woman into her car, according to the Police Public Affairs Unit. However she fought him and he fled to the second level.
The offender was described as black with a dark complexion, age 40 to 50, 5-foot-8 and having a gray and black beard although he was clean shaven during the first offense. He was wearing black overalls, a black shirt with an unknown logo and tan gloves in the most recent incident and a camouflage jacket over a gray hoody and a tan cap in the first.
The suspect wore cloth or surgical gloves in each incident, Nodiff, who warned residents to be aware of their surroundings when entering their vehicles, said.
“If they see anything suspicious, stay in the car, lock the car and call 911,” he said.
