A local pizzeria was robbed at gunpoint by a masked man, who locked one employee in the freezer while the other opened the register.
Two employees of Jackson Village Pizza, 2151 S. 22nd St., were closing at 12:02 a.m. Friday when a male wearing a mask and latex gloves entered the eatery carrying a black automatic handgun, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said.
He forced a 23-year-old employee into the freezer and duct taped his hands and ankles before locking him inside, Tolliver said. He then forced the 18-year-old employee to open the register. He stole about $700 cash and fled the scene jumping in the passenger’s side of a black SUV — possibly an Expedition — with tinted windows that traveled north on South 22nd Street.
The masked man was described as 5-foot 8 to 5-foot-10 and thin. No description for the driver of the SUV was provided.
