A woman escaped an attempted robbery by fighting back with Mace in Newbold/Point Breeze Friday.
The 27-year-old was walking home from work at 10 p.m. on the 1100 block of South Broad Street when an unknown man approached her with a undetermined object in his hand and said, “I have a gun. This is a robbery.” The woman used pepper spray on the man as he attempted to grab her purse. Upon being unsuccessful, he walked westbound on Ellsworth Street.
The offender was described as black with a light complexion, in his late-20s, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8, thin and wearing a light green jacket. He also appeared to have scabs or scars on his face.
