Smith was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and pronounced dead 20 minutes later.
Mason was sentenced to one-and-a-half to three years in jail in 2010 for firearm violations, stemming from a ’09 17th District incident, according to court records. He also served three years of probation starting in ’06 after being convicted of drug possession, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and resisting arrest charges.
