A teen and her mother were caught in the crossfire of bullets between two passing vehicles Saturday.

The 41-year-old was in a car accident at 66th Street and Elmwood Avenue prior to her husband and 15-year-old daughter arriving with her insurance papers when the shooting took place around 4:42 p.m., according to a report.

The teen, who suffered two gunshot wounds to the stomach, heard gunshots upon arrival and saw two vehicles speed away. A blue Chevy Malibu or Ford Taurus went south on 66th Street while a silver Ford Crown Victoria went east on Elmwood Avenue. Her mother was grazed by a bullet on the lower left side of her stomach and treated at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where her daughter was also being treated. The teen has since been upgraded from critical to stable condition, according to a report.

Another witness observed shots from the Ford and an anonymous caller told police the weapons from the crime were inside a residence on the 6500 block of Reedland Street where officers recovered an empty box of bullets from the back of the house. With a warrant, four .357 rounds were also found inside the basement. Camera videos from a nearby store and bar have been recovered too. No descriptions of the offenders were given, according to a report.

Teen shooting

Two teens shot one another following a school argument before police tracked them down Friday afternoon.

Following an earlier altercation at John Bartram High, 67th St. and Elmwood Ave,, a 17-year-old boy's father picked him up from school and walked to the bus stop on the 6700 block of Greenway Avenue where two teens threatened the pair, said Officer Tanya Little of the Police Public Affairs Unit. The son was allegedly shot in the left leg while waiting for a bus with his father at 12:43 p.m. by Marcus Harris, 18, of the 2600 block of Shields Street. Harris had a 15-year-old Southwest male accomplice, according to a report.

The duo fled on foot north on 67th Street after the incident. Police saw the younger offender running west on the 6700 block of Upland Street holding his waistband. The officer chased the boy and saw him toss a black and silver handgun on the 2000 block of Bonaffon Street before catching him. The gun was recovered and Harris was taken in custody at 66th Street and Greenway Avenue, according to a report. The boys have been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and related charges, Little said.

The injured teen was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition, according to a report.

Not so fast

A speeding driver saw a police vehicle and tried to escape by ramming into the police car.

Corey Doe Lakeh, 19, of the 6500 block of Belmar Avenue, was driving a 1998 Mazda and was allegedly speeding on the 6300 block of Dicks Avenue at 8:40 p.m. March 18. When he made eye contact with police officers, Lakeh allegedly sped up in an attempt to hit the police vehicle. Lakeh and his passenger attempted to flee on foot at Island Avenue and Tanager Street, but Lakeh was arrested while his passenger fled across Island Avenue, according to a report. Lakeh was charged with burglary arson and related offences.
