Most high school seniors can hardly wait to get out of school. They coast through that final arduous year of schooling counting the days until they can sprint out of the classroom, grab their cap and gown and walk out of the school one last time. Few, however, carry the passion, maturity and dedication of senior Alexa Janco of Ss. Neuman-Goretti High School, 1736 S. 10th St.

Janco, a resident of the 3200 block of South 20th Street, combines a passion for education with unbreakable determination. Along with a full course load, Janco also is involved with several extracurricular activities. She is part of the pro-life club and International Service Corps while also acting as the green team president, Italian club secretary, newspaper layout editor and National Honor Society treasurer.

“Alexa displays a level of maturity and class that really stands out above the rest,” admissions director Veronica Oster said. “She always has a friendly smile and a warm greeting for each person she comes in contact with each day.”

If there is one subject that Janco is particularly skilled, besides a knack for success, it’s accounting. At the end of her junior year she received an honorable mention award for the subject. She also received an award for outstanding achievements in extracurricular activities and academics for her dedication to her school.

Her motivation doesn’t solely come from within. Janco has a great admiration for her mother whom she described as “the kindest, most loving, caring and optimistic person [she] knows.”

In the future, Janco aspires to attend Drexel University where she hopes to receive a bachelor’s degree in cardiovascular technology.

Alexa Janco will receive a $150 savings bond. If you are a teacher or full-time educator and would like to nominate a student (first through 12th grades), call 215-336-2500 ext. 117 or e-mail editor@southphillyreview.com.
