How many third-grade students have respect for their parent’s work ethic and have their eyes set on future endeavors while working hard in the classroom? One 10-year-old at St. Monica School, 1720 W. Ritner St., does.
Liam Mulvey, of the 2100 block of Verona Drive, has his third-grade teacher, Alexis Ferraiolo applauding his hard work.
“Liam is a serious student who puts a lot of effort into succeeding in the classroom. He is concerned with how he performs in the classroom and has made academics his main priority. Liam is a wonderful child to be around,” Ferraiollo said.
All of the outstanding accolades that the fourth grader has put forward have not gone unnoticed. Liam excels most in reading during which he “reads aloud with excellent voice and expression,” and has many awards including the 4-star club award for excellence in effort and behavior and the Critic’s Award for a writing piece, but “Liam produces above-average works, which set him apart from the rest of his class,” his teacher from last year said.
Outside of the classroom, Liam loves to play soccer.
“He is a star on the field and puts a lot of time and effort into perfecting his soccer skills,” Ferraiolo said.
Soccer is not just Liam’s love but also one that has created a strong bond in his family. He looks up to his father, who also shares his passion for the sport. Liam also appreciates the fact that his father, who works hard, long hours, still makes time for him and encourages him to reach for the stars.
Although a bit too early to think about career plans, Liam plans to attend college and then become a professional soccer player.
“Liam claims that soccer is all he has known since he was a little boy and he wants to use his talent to make other people happy who come to watch him,” Ferraiolo said.
Liam Mulvey will receive a $150 savings bond. If you are a teacher or full-time educator and would like to nominate a student (first through 12th grades), call 215-336-2500 ext. 117 or e-mail editor@southphillyreview.com.
