“Respectful, responsible, energetic.” These are the words that Florence Coley, a sixth-grade teacher at St. Nicholas of Tolentine School, 913 Pierce St., uses to describe one of her more accomplished students, Sophia Trischitta.
The 11-year-old has a diverse range of interests, and also is a model of respect in the classroom.
“She is respectful to everyone she meets,” her teacher said. “She is active in school and participates in many school functions. Sophia is well-organized and gives a good example in school.”
Sophia has a packed schedule with plenty of exciting extracurriculars. The sixth grader from the 1000 block of Emily Street loves to sing and dance in her free time. She takes tap and hip-hop dancing classes at DanceAdelphia, 1100-02 Snyder Ave., and will play the role of Gracie Shinn in Neumann-Goretti High School’s musical, “The Music Man” this weekend. She is a member of the safety patrol, crochet club and cheerleading team, as well. In addition, she visits residents at St. Monica Manor, 2509 South Fourth St., with some of Coley’s other students.
Sophia credits her mother, Lisa, as a role model because of “all her good qualities and caring ways.”
In school, Sophia excels in math and also loves to read. She has been credited with scholastic awards including Student of the Month and Principal’s List for high honors. In the future, Sophia plans to attend college and wants to be a professional singer or dancer.
“She is a role model to all of her classmates,” Coley said. SPR
