Eighteen-year-old Stephanie Kelly has made a positive impression while in school. Her accomplishments extend beyond the classroom.

The senior at Ss. Neumann-Goretti High School, 1736 S. 10th St., is a student whose excellence in the classroom, as well as her service in many after-school programs, have propelled her to be one of the top students of her graduating class.

Kelly, a member of the Mayor’s VIP Program, which acknowledges students who receive straight As, have perfect attendance and is a Millay Scholar, particularly likes math and science.

“I like to figure things out and I also like learning different formulas and applying them to real life situations,” she said.

She is highly involved in extracurricular activities. She is the student council president, the National Honor Society vice president and the varsity cheerleading squad captain. She also works part-time at a dermatologist’s office. Aside from that, she serves as a member of the ambassador’s club, green team and pro-life club.

“Since her freshman year, she has been one of the best ambassadors I have ever had represent the school,” Veronica Oster, the school’s admissions director, said. “As student council president this year, she really has expressed her excellent leadership skills. She will truly be missed after she graduates.”

Kelly, of the 900 block of Morris Street, thanks her mother, Frances Kelly, for loving and caring for her unconditionally. She also views her late father, William Kelly, as a role model. She claims he continuously reminded her “that life is what you make of it.”

After graduation, Stephanie plans to attend college in the fall where she will major in nursing with hopes to become a nurse practitioner.

“Stephanie is going to be a great success in her future,” Oster said.

Stephanie Kelly will receive a $150 savings bond. If you are a teacher or full-time educator and would like to nominate a student (first through 12th grades), call 215-336-2500 ext. 117 or e-mail editor@southphillyreview.com.
