Vanesza Tenorio
Vanesza Tenorio, a 13-year-old eighth-grade student, has made quite the impact during her short time at Epiphany of Our Lord School, 1248 Jackson St.
The resident of the 2400 block of South Clarion Street is a first honors student who lived in Hong Kong until 2008 and is fluent in both Filipino and English. For only being at Epiphany for two years, she enthusiastically has gotten involved with many activities.
“Vanesza is an incredible student. She is well prepared and dependable. She is respectful and well liked by her peers,” Marisa Messina, Vanesza’s eighth-grade teacher said. “She is the first one to volunteer for an event whether in school or even on the weekend.”
This student council treasurer finds time to be on the yearbook staff and a safety. However, her first love is math. She excels in this challenging subject and has competed in a Mathlete competition at Ss. John Neumann Maria Goretti, 1736 S. 10th St., March 10.
“Vanesza is very quick to pick up new lessons,” Messina said.
While incorporating her love for math, she hopes to attend high school and continue her education by graduating from college. She aspires to receive a master’s degree in chemistry.
Her talents are not limited to academics as Vanesza loves to sing.
“She’d also love to be on “American Idol,” her teacher said on her aspirations.
Vanesza has found a great role model in her stepdad John because he has shown her constant suppport in her various endeavors.
“John teaches me wrong and right and supposrt me in every way,” Vanesza said.
This star student has a very bright future as she continues on with her education and extracurriculur activities.
“Vanesza is the first person I go to when I need help with an activity or project in class or after school. She is always there. Well prepared, respectful and enjoys school,” Messina said.
Vanesza Tenorio will receive a $150 savings bond. If you are a teacher or full-time educator and would like to nominate a student (first through 12th grades), call 215-336-2500 ext. 117 or e-mail editor@southphillyreview.com.
