Open letter to the Phillies fan who interfered with the probable catch by Jayson Werth:

If you were afraid the ball was going to hit your son in the head if you didn’t catch it, stay home and watch it on TV. If you truly are a Phillies fan and feared for your son’s safety, why not cover your son with your body and allow Werth to make the play? If you truly are a Phillies fan, you should have known the type of player Werth is, and would no doubt do everything he can to make the play.

Neither Werth, or the Philadelphia Phillies, owes an apology to you, your son or the fans in that section. It is you who owes Werth, the Phillies and the fans an apology. By all means, feel free to interfere when it would affect the opposing team. Not our Phils!

Island of the privileged

To the Editor: Some people in our neighborhood believe they are living on an island of privilege, where they can have their cake and eat it too. They have a garage, but choose not to use it. Where do they park their car? On our sidewalks. These people force our children and our handicaps (I know every block has them, with the number of parking permits handed out to just about any liar) to cross or walk in the street, putting them in the line of fire with speeding tow trucks and low-riding Lexus driven by drug-dealing teenagers. You know who you are.

Postal Service hikes

To the Editor: I understand the price of a postage stamp will be increased to 46 cents. [If approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, the price would be effective Jan. 2, 2011] The Post Office threatens to cut delivery by two days [Saturdays and Sundays] if not granted the increase. A similar scare tactic used by fear mongers like Mayor Nutter.

Take it back

To the Editor: It is one thing to govern a country but an entirely different thing to manipulate the land we used to call our own — “the land of the free.”

Hard to comprehend

I read with amusement the open letter to the Phillies fan who interfered with a Jayson Werth catch (“Foul territory interference,” July 15). There also is an incident that deserves honorable mention. What grown man comes to a baseball game with an Uncle Junior Soprano white jeff cap and a baseball glove?
