“Typically, the lowering of the flag has been reserved for the death of people of high distinction, armed forces/officials who have died in the line of duty, and national tragedies. This is supposed to be a high sign of honor for the person who has died. If we continue to lower the flag for anyone, this honor will lose its value. I do not think this was a good decision by our Governor. While Joe Paterno made a distinct mark in the history of Penn State Football and regardless of any scandals, he was still just a sports coach. There are other ways to show respect and I feel lowering the flag was not appropriate in this instance.”
