To the Editor:
As I write this letter, the Eagles are (3-8). Over the course of Donovan McNabb's 13-year career, he became a six-time Pro Bowler and he ranks in the top-25 in NFL history for attempts, completions, passing yards, passing touchdowns and passer ratings according to Yahoo Sports. By no means am I leading the cheers to bring back Donovan in an Eagles uniform. But when he was in his prime as our franchise quarterback, in hindsight, did we give him the proper level of respect and admiration considering statistically, he was the greatest quarterback in Eagles history? Donovan's 2,801 completions, 32,873 passing yards and 216 touchdown passes are all Eagle franchise records.
I am not trying to sugarcoat his tenure here. As fans, it was frustrating to say the least to constantly witness the often inadvertent throws into the dirt even though the receiver was wide open. And who cannot forget his confusion on just how overtime works in the NFL. But, Donovan also had thrown a ton of bombs down the field with his rocket-of-an-arm that often made the highlight reel on ESPN.
Sometimes, you don't fully appreciate what you have until it's gone.
