To the Editor:

Government didn’t force banks to give mortgages to people without means (“Occupying a different street” Nov. 11); the banks did it themselves and Wall Street was complicit. The government didn’t shut down oil wells in the gulf; they were shut down because they were leaking oil. Government didn’t assault our health care; insurance companies did and were backed by Wall Street. The health of Americans was put in jeopardy by the greed of insurance companies with the help of Wall Street. Farmers and fishermen weren’t put in peril by the government (who actually helps them with subsidies). They were hurt by the banks that lent them money. Wall Street has had a hand in all the financial problems ailing America today.

If you want manufacturing jobs to stay in America, then you have to make it difficult for business to take those jobs to countries where they pay 75 cents an hour to employees who have no health care at all. America would have to break its addiction to cheap goods. Jobs go overseas because it allows for the biggest profit for the manufacturer. Government did not corrupt colleges or schools; money did and Wall Street is money. Government is not the root of all evil, money is — remember the old adage?

Finally, our Constitution and Declaration of Independence are not bible based. The founding fathers were against religion of any kind being a part of our government.
