To the Editor:
Kudos to the administration, parents, teachers and students of the E. M. Stanton School, 17th and Christian streets, on the decision by the School Reform Commission to spare the school. This was another victory for the small school which has battled hard to remain viable in spite of poor support from the School District of Philadelphia.
Like the little engine that could, the Stanton community has proved it has not only the talent but the heart to fight for its survival. What separates Stanton from other schools that were forced to close is the intense involvement by the whole community, including business leaders in the educational process. Along with heavy doses of the arts and a wealth of extracurricular activities, students get the message every day that learning is important. If they knew what they were doing, the SRC would duplicate this model for the rest of the city.
Congratulations to all who made this huge success possible!
