To the Editor:
As you may know, the School District of Philadelphia released a list of school closings. Amongst those was my school, George Washington Elementary [1198 S. Fifth St.]. I am saddened by this news not only because of my position, but because of the potential George Washington obtains. Once you walk through the halls you will see and feel the learning that goes on in this building.
We are a community of lifelong educators and learners. The school district is making a mistake.
We are currently working on cards of sympathy and enjoyment for the victims and families of [Connecticut’s] Sandy Hook Elementary.

Editors Note: The school will hold a Save George Washington rally on its steps at 2:45 p.m. today.
