How do you feel the City is handling the cleanup from the recent snowstorms?

“I’m from [the east side] of Broad Street. No one can get up the smaller streets. I spent three days with my mom chipping her car out. We called the City three times, but no one came to plow. There’s a four-inch sheet of ice, so it’s dangerous to walk around right now.”

“At this point, I’d just like to see the trash picked up as soon as possible. I understand the capacity the City has right now is limited, but there’s been a lot of snow in one week, so the City’s done pretty well.”

“Considering the amount of snow and the time they had, the City’s done pretty good.”

“Tell Mayor Nutter to get out of his seat and come shovel with us! He’s always up in the Northeast, but South Philly counts too.”

“People seem to forget the storm of 96' which was significantly smaller than the back to back storms we just had. During that storm my car was stuck for over 2-weeks having to walk everywhere and take public transportation everyday to work. Streets are ALOT clearer now than that storm. In my opinion the city did a GREAT job. PS stop complaining and move on.”

“As far as South Phila. is concerned I don't believe there was any attempt to help the people. The Mayor posted a 311 number to call if your street was blocked or if trash hadn't been picked up. I feel that he only did that so we won't bother calling directly to City Hall, Streets Dept., or the Police Department. Many of my neighbors called asking for assistance getting our street cleared but no one ever showed up. Now they keep announcing that the City is actively working to get all areas cleaned. Well, we haven't seen one plow or salt truck since the beginning of these storms. Our corners were so impacted in ice the children couldn't even walk to school safely and one of our crossing guards fell on the ice. The only help we got was from each other. The people who live in So. Philly, who pay taxes and contribute to the economy of Phila. have to pay private contractors to have their streets plowed. No one from the City ever helps So. Philly.”

“Well, it took over 1 1/2 weeks to even get my street plowed. Once plowed they hauled a heep of snow on a neighbor's pavement as high as the 6 foot fence (thought the pavements were to be kept cleared). In addition, my car was stuck the entire time because the block is so small, when they plowed they put about 2 car lengths of snow behind my vehicle, plowed me in on the side/rear. It took me two weeks to dig out, and two shovels (one broke from the shoveling). After two weeks most vehicles still can not park on the block.”
