Wings assistant Chris Sanderson maintains his spot on the bench even as he battles cancer.
The Philadelphia Wings are hosting a benefit auction 7:30 p.m. March 28 at the Wachovia Center, 3601 S. Broad St., to raise funds for the Chris Sanderson Cancer Treatment Fund. All money from the event will benefit the Wings assistant coach, who underwent surgery Dec. 22 in his fight against brain cancer.
Sanderson inspired his team Jan. 10 when he returned to the bench to coach just three weeks after the procedure. The father of two wears a protective helmet when he is on the bench with the lacrosse squad.
Items for auction include a round of golf with Wings owner Mike French and All-Star Geoff Snider at the Philadelphia Country Club, a 2009 signed All-Star jersey donated by this year's team, as well as autographed merchandise from Wings current and past players.
