Neumann-Goretti grad Gloria Brown and her University of Texas at El Paso women’s basketball team are off to a 4-0 start. The 6-foot-2 forward senior is coming off a 2010-11 season in which she was named Conference USA’s Newcomer of the Year, as well as the league’s Sixth Player of the Year.
Her dominating presence continues to shine on the hardwood. Brown came just shy of recording a triple-double in the Nov. 16 76-72 overtime victory over New Mexico State with a final line of 21 points, nine rebounds and eight blocks — the third-most in program history. The multidisciplinary studies major previously played college ball at Trinity Valley Community College.

If Gloria Brown were an actress, she would likely land supporting roles and probably top the star thespian’s performance each time. Similar hardwood scenarios played out constantly this year, as the University of Texas at El Paso senior forward proved substitutes can be as devastating as starters.
