The Neumann-Goretti boys’ basketball team had its 73-game winning streak against parochial opposition, including playoffs, snapped Monday with a 65-62 road loss to La Salle College High School.
The Saints set the Catholic League mark for consecutive victories, including postseason contests, at 50 on Feb. 11, 2011 and claimed four league titles since their previous defeat, a quarterfinal playoff loss to Monsignor Bonner Feb. 16, ’08. Junior guard Ja’Quan Newton led the local athletes, who will look to begin a new run tomorrow at home against West Catholic, with 18 points in the recent setback.
