Street surfer

Relentless rays were no match for thrill-seeking Sonny Mazzone, foreground, Tuesday. The 10-year-old from 10th and Hoffman streets threw caution to the wind, braved the 90-plus degrees and, with board in hand, hit the half-pipes at FDR Park. Gliding over the graffiti-tinted pavement, popping ollies and kickflips, skateboarders create their own breeze with their effortless maneuvering that is truly art in motion. After showing off his moves, the almost-two-year skating vet took a much-needed break and cooled off before mounting his board one more time.

Cookie for a Cause

Lemonade on a summer day? Perfect. But lemonade, any day and cookies can never go wrong. Alex’s Lemonade Stand, young Alex Scott’s homegrown fundraiser for pediatric cancer turned national effort, has paired with Starbucks for a limited-edition lemonade cookie. Dana Savage, foreground, couldn’t resist the stellar combination at the coffee mogul’s Broad and Jackson streets spot on a steamy Tuesday as the workweek — and the heat wave — just started to hit the city. Employee Drake Rodriguez, background, volunteered to brave the temperatures to staff the stand and launch the sweet treat.
