Watery winter

Vibe_12_20.jpg
Despite blustery winds and temperatures (or wind chills) that have dipped below freezing, that rumored nor’easter has yet to dump a load of seasonal powder on South Philly streets. The closest we have gotten is last Thursday’s wintry mix, which left these droplets hanging on a stark branch at 10th and Morris streets, knowing their days are numbered. It is just a matter of time before gusts whip exposed, rosy cheeks and sleet pelts weary travelers with just-above-freezing rain. A White Christmas may not be in our immediate future, but will a Wintry Mix one do?

Déjà vu

If one thing is certain, it’s the holidays are a time for tradition. From the dinner-table staples of personal feasts to the glowing lights that trim the house, knowing the same experiences can be found year after year is comforting. For Joseph Michaels, left, this time of year means a trip to Robert Lemons, who sets up shop annually at 10th and McKean streets and has been selling Christmas trees with brother George for 19 years. Next year, when 2007’s presents are a distant memory, Lemons will be back on his corner because, luckily, some things never change. SPR

You gotta love the fall

BlackFri8.JPG
Was out all day on Black Friday with our reporter Caitlin Meals to do our best to cover Black Friday shoppers in South Philly and Southwest Philly. I saw this picture as we were in the car heading to Staples. The sun that morning was so beautiful, I felt as if nobody took notice because of all of the hot or not so hot deals at Best Buy. Fall is my favourite season, there is a real beauty about it - Enjoy

City Hall Birds

TreeLighting_7.jpg
Last Thursday I was out to shoot the tree lighting ceremony at City Hall and there must have been thousands of birds flying over William Penn at City Hall. It was like a scene out of that movie - 12 Monkeys, there was such a vibe this evening, it was almost magic.
