To Be Continued Brass Band

_MG_0311.jpg
TBC Brass Band performed live on Sunday night at the beginning of Bourbon Street right off Canal, they filled the area with a real New Orleans vibe, giving it the richness and soulful element that I was looking for the entire time I was here. It was such an experience, I did record some audio for a slideshow later on. Check them out on the web tbcbrassband.com

St. Bernard Parish has their own Mardi Gras parade, streets are shut down and everyone comes out for a fun filled day of drinking, craw fish boils and old fashioned southern family fun.

Bourbon Street - The French Quarter

IMG_9373.jpg
We spent a few hours today in the French Quarter, it was such a cloudy, rainy miserable day, but that did not stop the hardcore early afternoon party people or locals from going out to enjoy the parade. Here is all I shot today, was not in the mood to really shoot pictures of a bunch of drunk people.

IMG_9344.jpg
Authentic ? I didnt see any speak english signs here, so it must not be very authentic.

IMG_9395.jpg
They did say there is a huge music scene here, what do you think ?

Southern breakfast

IMG_9230.jpg
Thats right - Ham steak, hard scrambled eggs and a butter biscuit. I couldnt even finish this, so much food. I thought Philly was big on portions, geez. Yesterday I had a Shrimp Po-Boy, which is like a hoagie but with shrimp in it. Today we are heading into the French Quarter, our mission is to watch some of the parades, eat some great food and shoot as many pictures as possible. My jet lag has wore off so I am ready to get out and do something finally. see ya soon, cheers.

Village Square

IMG_9321.jpg
IMG_9295.jpg
Here are a few homes located in the Village Square section of New Orleans. There are no residents living here. "You loot, I shoot" is a popular saying down here, each block looks exactly like this. You can drive block after block after block and see nothing. There are a few people that managed to rebuild.

No Hillary, but plenty of support

Obama.jpg
Michelle Grant from Brooklyn New York and Chris Morrill from Ardmore wave at motorists to honk for Obama during Hillary Clinton's visit to
City Hall to be endorsed by Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell. She did not come out to greet her supporters, instead she rushed out of City Hall and headed off to New Jersey.

Jay McCarroll - Fashion Designer

LS_Fashion_1.jpg
I went out last week to photograph fashion designer Jay McCarroll, it took me some time to figure out where I seen him before. It did come clear after leaving the photo session that he was once on Bravo's Project Runway. I called Caitlin to make sure I was right, well turns out I was. I thought it was pretty funny during the shoot when he called me, yes me, now I quote "weird" I wont go into details on what else he said but lets just say that it was a very interesting shoot. Playing dirty

Vibe_MudBall_7.jpg
The Eagles may be out of the playoffs, but that doesn’t mean South Philly doesn’t have its own dose of hard-hitting football. Every other week, the intensity at Capitolo Playground, Ninth and Federal streets, picks up when Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts students like Alex Tannen, pictured as he’s shoved out of bounds by Korey Kazhica last Friday, get in uniform — in this case, whatever can get splattered with mud — and toss around the pigskin.

Pledge to the people

Vibe_1_10_08.jpg
With son Christian looking on, Michael Nutter took the oath of office to begin his term as the city’s 98th mayor at the Academy of Music, Broad and Locust streets, Jan. 7. The new head honcho then moved to the Navy Yard to party with the public and politicos for “Philadelphia Realized.” Whatever the circumstance — whether a celebration or an oration — this will be the first of many times all eyes are on the man in charge.
